SketchUp .skm Materials

Postby cadmastr » Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:00 pm

I just uploaded a bunch of materials in the .skm file format to the Sketchucation Attachment Server (SAS). I found these online during my occasional searches.

http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/sas/Materials/fabrics-vinyltile-wood-skm_format.zip

After you download and unzip this file, you can copy each folder to your SketchUp Materials main folder.

Also, in the "Wood" folder, the file suffixes of "Hor" and "Ver" pertain to the grain direction of the wood (Horizontal and Vertical, respectively).

This is the first time I have uploaded to the SAS, so if I did something wrong, please let me know.

Thanks Chris and Jim,

I want to add a few words to the discussion so that it can be searched for. The above link contains wood grain textures, fabric textures, and vinyl floor textures.

You can get the floor tiles here http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2007/09/blog-post.html courtesy of Jim Foltz, and you can get the other materials at my website at http://www.chrispicciano.com. Go to the "Other Downloads" page.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for those Wood textures! Now, how can I view them (as .skms) before importing the ones I'd like, into SUp?

Every .skm file is similar to a .zip file. If you have a program like WinZip, you should be able to open them. Of course, you will have to tell your unzipping software that you want to associate a .skm file with it.

If that option is too much for you, then simply copy your Wood .skm files into the Materials folder under SketchUp. Fire up SketchUp, open the Materials Browser, navigate to the folder that the wood .skm files are in, and you should be able to see all of the different types. (See graphic below:)

The fabrics were originally made by me (cleaned up from images on the Norwalk website) and uploaded to the 3D Warehouse. That post can be found here:
