Window ChallengeSo this is the solution Im trying to think of... I have a facade of the building (as you can see its uneven, bottem smaller then top etc). And I an window design I want To apply to it. Shape bending tool wont do the job, the fredo scale might but what happens if there will be like 30 floors to do,window will be a pain.
Re: Window ChallengeIt seems you Window Challenge is more a Mission Impossible. Shape Bender could do the job but only if you create a small gap somewhere in the curve and create a group of windows at least as long as length of the curve.
Otherwise it would seem your only options is un-bent windows placed on the curve. Last edited by sdmitch on Sat Mar 24, 2012 8:08 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Window ChallengeHave you tried Component Stringer?
I did something similar with a simple curve here, but it should work for more complex paths.
Re: Window Challengeyou can use Component stringer and BZ_tools and Recurve( see plugins index )
# 1 Draw your bean # 2 erase the face # 3 select the perimeter an recurve # 4 right-click/ BZ_ convert to / polyline segmentor # 5 type how many windows you want, enter # 6 erase one segment of the curve ( Component stringer does not work with closed curves ) # 7 select your window component and your curve then plugin/Component stringer /scaling: stretch # 8 add the last window. Done # 9 use the tape tool to rescale if needed. Note: you may have to play with component axis to find the good orientation of the window. Re: Window ChallengeI tried using the component stringer. It works fine in most cases until you get to unevenly oriented/slanted walls (e.g one wall is facing up, but the angle slowly changes, and then you have a wall that faces down slighty)
Im thinking that the solution to this could be a plugin that would: Draw/Model a "pattern" on a selected surface or surfaces. The "pattern" would be assigned by selecting a component.
Re: Window ChallengeDo you mean your walls are not vertical?

Yes Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums.
Re: Window ChallengeIn this case all your windows or most of them will be different.
Can you imagine the cost of this?
Re: Window Challenge
Ye, but atleast all put my monster rig to good use (If you mean cont of production, Im doing this project as an experiment)
Re: Window ChallengeGood luck?
Maybe you could find fredoscale useful for this.
Re: Window ChallengePerhaps you need to build the mesh and lattice it into windows - EEbyRails then LatticeMaker - one leaving diagonals and the other after manually erasing coplanar diagonals [simple selection tricks...]
I know the windows are not all the same width - but hey, this is a quick 5min demo... you have several hours to sort this perfectly... Please, register (free) to access all the attachments on the forums. TIG
Re: Window ChallengeTHere is also a plugin called component onto faces wich could help you. You have to correctly position the center of the component though
Re: Window ChallengeMy solution is not a plugin
It's Paracloud Gem I dream about a simple free plug for SU doing that ! Waiting for it, I've bought the V4 next year.
Re: Window Challenge
Price??? Nothing on site I can find. Not much info either
Re: Window Challenge
Sad... there is no info on the new version of the web site I said "I've bought the V4 next year", but's not realy true... "My school bought it" is better So, I dont realy know the price, but I remember something about 250$ for academic license.
