Yep, this is a boolean tool, although still under development, as the author says.

Thanks Oscar,
This is a very cool tool, although a bit buggy, it's another work simplifier and enhancer for Sketchup
:sketchstatic: , can't wait for the improved version.
Good luck. ;)

Thanks Oscar! Now it works (although indeed there are some little bugs - especially when there are coplanar faces with a union for instance)

Wow. I was JUST doing some intersect and delete stuff manually, and was thinking about how useful it would be if there was a ruby to do it for me. I go to see if I got any comments on posts here, and viola.

very good script to watch... this will be another milestone. i hope it will also have bollean add. where when you intersect two volumes, the unwanted volume will be erased automatically.

If I understand your words correctly, this is exactly what happens with the script (apart from the errors/bugs).

I think it needs a lot of development. That is not to discourage the author, as I think this has great potential and should be a commercial plugin when bugfree. I would definitely pay for it.

As would I. Certainly looks like a promising tool. Fingers crossed!

Oscar,
Thank you for working on this script.
SU has been crying out for such a tool for ages.
.........
I can get it to run OK in SU 6, but please note the following:

1. The groups of interest (those I want to union or subtract etc) must be placed in their own seperate (temporary) file - as all other geometry is deleted !!!

Other than that - seems to works well.
If I notice anything else I'll let you know.
..........
Can you get it to run with components also ??? This would make it so much more useful.
..........
Thanks once again for all your hard work with this script
Regards

Hy! I get an error when trying to load the script. Is possible because of a vista-like patch that I have installed and changed some fonts.
Code: Select all
Error: #<SyntaxError: C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Plugins\OSCoolean.rbs:1: no .<digit> floating literal anymore; put 0 before dot
RBS1.0
     ^
C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Plugins\OSCoolean.rbs:1: syntax error
RBS1.0
      ^

Maybe is something that can be done to make the script working in this conditions?I don't know what is the last symbol in the error message.
Below is what I see in npp.
Thanks.

Why don't know what our friend Oscar shares their plugins without the available source code, he shares them compiled. Maybe some could help him in the development.

Hi everybody,

There is a newer version(15, Dec, 2008) out in the first post! (with intersect boolean improved only)

Regarding "...The groups of interest (those I want to union or subtract etc) must be placed in their own seperate (temporary) file - as all other geometry is deleted !!!" and the rest matter...

Will be settle in the last version.
By the way, great to know that there is another New BOOLEAN script will be released soon !!! :enlight: :bounce:

Oscar,

Thanks for a (probably) great script, but I cann't run it on my mac.
Downloading the newest version results in a OSCoolean.rbs file.
As could be expected, since the file-extension is rbs, it doesn't show up at all.
Renaming it to OSCoolean.rb results in the following error-message:

Error Loading File OSCoolean.rb
/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: no .<digit> floating literal anymore; put 0 before dot
RBS1.0
^
/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: parse error
RBS1.0
^
/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 7/SketchUp/Plugins/OSCoolean.rb:1: Invalid char `\030' in expression

I very often use the intersect function to create complex 3d shapes and so this script would be very helpfull and time-saving for me.
Any solution available ????
Thanks for the help.
greetings,
Ton

Ton, rbs files are just scrambled rb files and should run on Macs as well without any problem. If there is a problem, it is not in the extension or the fact that it's scrambled. The plugin should appear in the context menu, did you check it there?

Gaieus,

As usual you are right. The problem wasn't due to the file-extension.
Probably it was due to some other strange ruby interference. Yesterday I have been spending quite some time on copying many of my SU6 plugins to SU7. My SU6 plugins-folder contains about 136 items. So I decided it was/is time to really look into what I really need and what to keep, to get rid of duplicates and more. In fact a real mid-winter SU clean-up.
Oscar's 'new' intersection-plugin is one I really want and need. Installing it really didn't do anything, no trace anywhere.
That made me writing my 'contribution' to this topic.
Since this morning, the problem is solved. Oscar has approached me by PM offering me another download-version. I really appreciate that and have thanked him, but what might be more important, restarting GSU7 this morning was a complete disaster. What has gone wrong yesterday I don't know, but in the end I reinstalled a new clean version of GSU7 pro on my mac, downloaded Oscar's plugin as the first new entry in my 'virgin' plugins-folder and....everything works perfect.
I now start re-entering old plugins in GSU7 and will see what the result will be.
I have reported other strange plugin/ruby-interferences before, I just hope I don't have to report more.
If so, I will keep this community informed.
greetings,
Ton

Ah yes, unfortunately there are collisions sometimes between plugins no matter how careful (at least some/many of) the scipters try to be.

To keep my SU "clean" a little bit from plugins I rarely (but sometimes necessarily) use, I rename the extension to something meaningless (my custom one is rbb) so they simply do not load. When I occasionally need them, I just change the extension back for that (or more) session(s).

Gaieus, alternatively you can put them into a subfolder and call/load them up from Jim's rubytoolbar script.

I think I will go for some kind of 'Gaieus-solution'.
Jim's Rubytoolbar is windows only, so not for me, unfortunately.
I haven't seen any other subfolder-plugin-solution for the Mac (yet !!).

SU 7 is now starting :)
Works fine with your test file :enlight:
Works not when I create myself the 2 boxes! :o (each box is a group)
Must have the Pro version :?:

Edit :!:
Works with my boxes, but I must save my file and reload it before use your plug! ;)
Is that normal?
