[Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.4a - 01 Nov 18Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15Pilou
That answer is NOT good enough. I get the very same problem 4 times out of 5 to the point I have stopped using that arc tool. IT DOES NOT WORK properly. I have tried all sorts of variations, on a grouped surface, on a component surface, on a surface that was selected, on a surface with lines shown, lines not shown, endpoint to endpoint. Same result every time. Twisted lines in space, very few on the surface and otherwise useless. When it works, it works wonders. When it doesn't it takes me about a 1/2 hour to create a curve the old fashioned way with intersecting extrusions. I have complained about this several times in the past, nothing changed. Please fix it! __________________

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15I've tried to select only faces that I know will contain the curve. That did not work either.

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15Sorry I'm still having no joy with the arc
I've been using the ellipse tool instead. But even that is hit and miss. The tools don't always draw on the surface and draw weirdly on the x or y axis instead. I seem to get success when a purple dots show up but more often then not it's the red star for the intersection. I'd love to sing the praises of this plugin because it's a great concept but I need help to get it working properly
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15Upload an example SKP file with a surface on which you can't draw a curve. Give us something to work with. Maybe we can help.

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15sorry just done it now
Ive been using a separate group with lines as a guide. Ive been using the ellipse tool instead of the arc as the arc tool will not draw a solid line. the plan is once the 4th ellipse is drawn to delete the above area then delete the Bottom of the ellipse lines (first time I did this I did a few of the measurements wrong so I know it works I just need to do it again) thank you all in advance
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15The group you created as a guide is getting in the way of letting the tool work properly.
I copied the top edge of the cylinder down to give me a base line for the arcs and set a few guidelines to locate the ends of the arcs. The Arc on Surface tool works just fine. Etaoin Shrdlu

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15think that my guides were drawn wrong so I redraw I but now I have the problem that the ellipses round is made up of many little lines not the one line which is a tad of a problem when trying to use jointpushpull on the cylinder surface
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15It's hard to tell what you have going on now without seeing the file.

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15well I'm getting a solid line but my arc isn't happening - its either a mess or something like the attachment
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15oh my goodness, I think I got it to work - I deleted a few of the guidelines and zoomed out - not the prettiest looking object but it does the job
thank you for sparing the time to help the key seems to be to note where the blue/purple dots appear and keep guides to a minimum
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.2a - 13 Nov 15Good for you. If you use the inferencing tools you really shouldn't need much in the way of guides.

Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17NEW RELEASE: Tools on Surface 2.3a - 06 Oct 17
This maintenance release is required for: - the support of usernames with non-ascii characters - the compatibility for High Sierra for Mac users - the support for hi-resolution screens - the certification for SU2017 You will need to migrate to LibFredo6 7.7g or higher Please see main post for download Fredo
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17Fredo would it be hard to add fillet tool please?
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17
What do you mean? This is a set of tools "on Surface". Fredo
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17I mean fillet on 3d surface. See attached:
Say you have AB and CD lines. The red fillet connectig AB abd CD is demanded. Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17Street - underground parking ramp junction. Example from real life (VERY common an tedious task).
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17@rv1974
Somehow, you are asking if I could implement teh equivalent of BezierSpline 'on surface', of which the filetting is just one tool. That's probably possible, but non trivial. Actually the real difficulty with TOS is to handle the sharp changes in surface, because this is where directions may change abruptly. If everything was on a smooth surfce it would be simpler. I'll think about it. Fredo
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17I'd gladly use this 3d fillet on more or less 'calm' surfaces and get an error report on sharp ones. no problem.
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17Hi!
As you can see in the screenshot, I selected two neighbouring surfaces. Offset on Surface creates one big offset for them both, together. I was thinking, if it's possible that offsets would be created separately, independently for each surface? Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17
Why don't you select each face for individual offset? Fredo
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.3a - 06 Oct 17
Because in another model I have tones of surfaces to offset and selecting them one by one would be haaard. Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.4a - 01 Nov 18NEW RELEASE: Tools on Surface 2.4a - 01 Nov 18
This maintenance release is for bug fixing You will need to migrate to LibFredo6 8.6j or higher ----------------------------------- Please see main post for discussion See Plugin download page for download Fredo
Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.4a - 01 Nov 18Dear Fredo,
Hello, I kindly reach you to ask you, Is there any possibility to add curve line to the Tools On Surface plugin or link BezierSpline plugin with Tools On Surface in order to draw the F-spline or Catmull Spline. Because sometimes we need to draw the special curve on curved surfaces. (Attachment file). Sincerely Hamidreza Re: [Plugin] Tools On Surface - v2.4a - 01 Nov 18That's relatively difficult to make a Draw Bezier on Surface.
I think in the case of your model, the best would be to proceed with shaped cylinder and then intersect the torus. Fredo
