no render

no render

Postby eddiemoney » Wed May 23, 2012 9:42 pm

What the hell!!!!!!!!!

Why does sketchup do thisssss! I have a model... I render it. I change views and click to render again only to have it say "v-ray is processing" and then after it hangs, it just closes the render window and sits there like it never started the rendering process. This is so freakin annoying. I dump all the unused materials and save and close. Then I open it and hit render and it works. Why is this so hit or miss? any suggestions? I can't keep saving and closing and opening project just to hopefully get a scene rendered before it stops working.

Thanks

Moved to the V-ray forum so you're more likely to get useful help.
Inspecting mirrors is a job I could easily see myself doing.

What version are you using? The latest is 1.49.01 - if you're not using the latest version you ought to update.

This happens to me from time to time. Generally only on larger models. I have no fix suggestions other than revert back to a previous save. I assumed this was a bug. I feel your frustration. By the way I'm using the latest build

That happens to me sometimes if I open up a second window of sketchup. Is that an issue for you?

Thus you can avoid this issue entirely if you only have one SU window open when you are rendering. (It works for me since I have two computers, and I can work on the other while a render is running on my workstation.)

I have no problem with multiple windows open - even when rendering...

Do you have multiple instances of vfsu running? It's when I have vfsu in more than one window that things get buggy... There seems to be some contamination of the temp directory links perhaps.

Nor do I, that would be kinda pointless. I mean having vfsu open in another window to work on another file. For example I might want to grab a vismat from another file, but once that second window is open and I want to render again, I get this same error.

Don't see how that's related to the graphics card. It's an issue of the render not starting. (or starting and getting stuck.) I'll see next time it happens if I can get an error report out of it.

Oh, did you copy a material from one file to another?

In that case I think you'd be better off not having VfSU loaded when you do so. VfSU data are stored as attributes with the materials so the data transfers even with VfSU not loaded. Though I think I've observed that copying with VfSU loaded corrupt things.

i.e. - save out a vismat and load into the other file through the material editor.

I specifically don't copy and paste anymore for that reason. Just the action of opening another file with vfsu loaded seems to be enough to cause the error in rendering. I'll see if I can get an error report out of it.

I don't know alot about this but I find after doing alot of simulatenous renders on the trot it happens and have always assumed its a lack of ram, a reboot seems to always fixes this.

hmmmmm some interesting info has been uncovered here... i do often have multiple windows of sketchup open, i do often copy and paste entities between projects and Vray is always loaded. Looks like i should learn what a vismat is :)

eddiemoney; a vismat is a v-ray material file. you can save those by right-clicking on a material in the v-ray material window and choosing 'save material'

@ dkendig, indeed I did... I always appreciate all the help I get from everyone here. I'm going to try not having VRFSU loaded when I have (2) instances of SU loaded at the same time. Thanks everyone!

Silly question though, when would I save a material? Wouldn't I have loaded it from a saved location in the first place?

i think its not have always loaded from the first place, since when you create a vismat, vray will make it into zipped folder (vismat file and also the bitmap used will be included (diffuse, bump, displacement, etc.)), and you can put and load it from everywhere as long as you keep it on one folder..

vd
still so much to learn..
