Gimp - SU - Help Thread

Gimp - SU - Help Thread

Postby iichiversii » Tue Jun 12, 2012 8:21 pm

Ok im setting this trend up not just for myself but for those who would like to edit and create textures in Gimp.
Also for help in areas of difficulty using Gimp for SU projects.

Im new to Gimp myself and im struggling with it and find what should be easy, very time consuming, i find myself learning from trial and error mostly, but learning Gimp is a must for most of my work needs unique textures created to finish them.

1.So to the point, can anyone suggest tutorials on the web which they found effective for editing and creating textures.
2.Tips and tricks for using Gimp
3.Add a workflow they use using SU and Gimp
4.Or add anything you find that may help others and introduce us to new technics which maybe new to everyone else, been creative or not.

Thank you for reading, hope this trend helps me and others, enjoy :D

I like this idea, too.
I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

First idea.

Study preferences and how to set-up the interface to make your work easier. I've had more D'oh moments because I didn't give it a good study in the first place.

Also note that many Photoshop tutorials will apply to GIMP. Obviously there are some features that are missing or done differently, but you have similar techniques. Also newer PS versions have highly advanced features that GIMP does not try to emulate.

Alex's Photoshop / SketchUp tuts are great IMHO. What a saint to provide this free to everyone:

I like the ambient occlusion one.
