fine objects like bolts and screw threads ..detailing in LO

Postby GMthompson » Mon Jul 24, 2017 3:16 pm

I often generate details of connections for structural framing of steel aluminum etc.. i keep libraries of 2d things like bolts, construction teks etc.... very often these things get washed out in layout, layout has a hard time generating such fine lines, outside of wireframe anyways

i have figured out that if you drag/move the group/componenet forward of the other object say 1/2" the line generation gets a lot cleaner or if you make the object with faces and drag it forward it appears like a draw order in other cad programs

does anybody have any tips they use or care to share to display fine objects in a larger models using scales less than an inch

Make 2d scrapbook items that you can use time and time again.

I have done various types of detailing for wood assemblies that require custom metal brackets/plates/etc.
I have used clipping masks to give a "close up" of the part(s).
Maybe that is something you could incorporate? (please see "snapshot" in below .pdf)

Best regards,

You can change the line thickness that LO uses to render the window, and you may see exults change if you render in vector or raster. This also can be affected by the style Edge settings in SU.

When I first started doing shop drawings in LO I did a few sheets of typical joinery and changed rendering type, line weights, etc. and built a template with what I liked.

I usually use a line thickness of .1 for these types of details being the display of screws and bolts

i am not big on scrap books for inserting in my eyes cad objects i use them for boiler notes weld symbols section cut lines elevation symbols etc.
