I think this has been mentioned (requested) in the wishlist before, hope it gets the attention it deserves.
I'm with you Julian and all, very annoying. I tend to use minimum toolbars to the top and 'float' the Large tooset to the left of the screen.... Custom toolbars would be great also; I notice that MAC SU has an undo / redo toolbar by itself. [please correct me if I am wrong] PC SU has it in the 'Standard' toolbar which takes up valuable screen. Would be great to have a separate toolbar instead of Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y...

Andrew, ive got a feeling the toolbars are completely customisable in macSU, although i might be wrong as ive never actually tried it. It would cetainly be nice to have this feature for windows, would certainly help to maximise working space.

Add my request to the wishlist.

Has anyone been working with really small buttons? I mean when you untick the View - Toolbars - Large Button? I haven't had problems with unsticking icons since i started using small (tiny) buttons which admittedly is a bit of a strain on one's eyes.

Photoshop and CAD for that matter have the ability to save profiles for different users. This would solve the issues of toolbars and also templates, and the profile could include Rubys as well.

It doesn't make sense if in my profile the toolbars are unlocked again

Its more of a seperate issue, but if you could take your work space with you, those who Hotdesk or travel to different offices would not have to spend 5 mins setting up the toolbars. If SU 7 had lockable toolbars and the profile system they would work together really well.

Bump.
I added a couple new ruby scripts today and what do you know... all my toolbars were flung all over my screen. And then I had to fix it all over again at home. Please fix this Google.

Another thing in regards to toolbars. Whenever I need for whatever reason to resize the SketchUp window, toolbar mayhem occurs. I wish they would not re arrange themself automatically. I prefer getting a drop down menu with the off-screen tools appearing instead as with many other application with toolbars. This is another example where SketchUp tried to sort things out for you without actually succeeding. (Ref: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14839)

i found a way to lock my toobars on mac. i am not sure it works on windows.
1. in a new file i enable all the extensions i want (sketchup-->preferences-->extensions), open the toolbars not open (view-->tool palettes) and place them where i want them to stay. 2. then i save the file as a new template.
in my case, when i opened a new file only some of the toolbars opened, although they where in the right spot. if this is the case for you, go to the next step.
3. open the template file directly (file-->open) from the templates folder. 4. enable the toolbars that did not show up. save the file. 5. open a new file (file-->new). all you toolbars should be there, on the correct spot too.

Hi Ken, We do have some bugs recorded regarding toolbar issues. But I want to make sure we have the issue you are talking about. Can you give a quick description of it? Or maybe add it to the Bugs section? Thanks in advance, Tricia

We do have some bugs recorded regarding toolbar issues. do you guys use SU? the toolbars are crazy. their never in the same place twice, when you add or remove a plugin. they stack, restack, something left across the top (horizontal)will be at the bottom (vertical) the next time; you can group them logically and then they get spread-out. very frustrating to have to get used to a different (random)interface all the time. THere should be a way to lock them, or a .ini file to keep their positions or something.

- Code: Select all
The status bar no longer updates on the Mac. When performing actions on the Mac that show progress in the status bar (e.g. Sandbox actions), the status bar did not update. The status bar should now show progress for lengthy tool actions.
oh, nice. .

i've also found that if I move the toolbars and then don't save before i exit it looses the position. And with all the scf toolbars i can't put more than one toolbar on a certain level. It just bumps them to different levels. oh yeh and I'm sure that everyone wants the back button back on the component and material browser!!

- If you add a new plugin which adds a new toolbar you risk it blowing up your entire toolbar setup.
- I can't seem to some free floating toolbar to remain free floating between sessions, they reattach themself to the top edge. (V-Ray toolbar)
- Freefloating toolbar's window are too small when you start up SU, it's like their size is initally calculated as if the icons where small. It restores itself when you click the toolbar though.
