Well I really hope there is room for improvements, because as you say, Explode becomes horribly slow very quickly.

If SketchUp joined the version number race (Chrome&Mozilla), we would see new versions more often :D

Those [if any] who are involved in the beta-testing of new versions of Sketchup, Layout and even other Google Tools [if any], will almost certainly have signed an NDA [Non-Disclosure-Agreement], and therefore they will not even be able to tell you about their involvement in this process, let alone to provide any details of their [limited] knowledge [if any] of potential forthcoming changes that could be anticipated [if any], in these products.

TIG is right. I was obviously joking with version 12 but even if anyone had any knowledge of what is coming up in version 9, (s)he would not be allowed even to hint that there is a new version around the corner - let alone details of the new features.

SU9 Would be Great with a built in realSection to be associated with materials. If I use the section tool after I can see the material of the sliced objects something like advanced zorro. and more more BIM BIM BIM BIM ... object list BOM (bills of material).

As I sit here waiting for SU to finish it's current operation, I've had time to think about signing on and posting a wish... I was wishing it would take advantage of 64bit OS... How hard can that be? It's really really difficult to sit here and watch one core bang away while the other 15 just sit there idle... * sigh *

64bit OS has nothing to do with number of cores used. 64bit is about being able to address more memory. And unless you are using a render that runs within SketchUp's own process that you're unlikely to have any lack of memory while using SketchUp.

Number of cores - yes, this is in fact a hard thing to do. Very hard. Most processes simply cannot be split into running on multiple cores, the task usualy require that it's done in a linear fashion on a single core. When you see other 3d application boast about multi-core support it's a pretty good bet that the application has a render engine built in and it is that which make use of all the cores. While you model though, they won't be using all your cores.

Isn't view generation (orbiting etc.) a sort of rendering? Is it likely there is anything another core could be handling to take the load off?

Best thing is not to speculate or demand a specific technical implementation - as they cloak the real request: better performance. Don't get caught up in whether a buzzword can be applied - but trust that they know what they do. They are programmers - they worked on the applications for years. If throwing multiple cores into it had been easy it would have been done. If you do some search on multi-core programming - then you'll find lots of information to why it's not easy.

Yes, maybe it's not easy... but it looks like it will be the only way to get real perfomance improvements in future versions... since this is the way CPUs evolve since a few years.
And even if it is not possible to use multiple cores for modeling or geometry display, it could be used at least to speed up "closed" operations like rendering images or saving in the background.

It's really a joke that you have to open multiple versions of the same file to speed up rendering an animation (i found a limit somewhere at 8 instances...) - why can't this be done internally?!?

btw... i would really like to hear the explanation why an autosave takes 10 times lomger than a normal save... really annoying

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but I would love the option where Styles/Profiles is applied to the whole model instead of every component/group. At this point I sometimes explode the entire model, just to get a nice NPR output from Sketchup.

Also, the option to 'tell' Sketchup which object is on top of the other. This to get rid of Z-fighting and maybe even see through style lines.

Just my two cents :D

Please can we have Generate Report CSV linked to the model units or at least give us a basic option of output in inches / centimetres. It's a real pain having to convert everything to metric just to do quick quantity checks.

I would like to see a skybox as parallax-invariant background that is also not trimmed off by the far Z plane. Either from an equirectangular panorama or six cube faces. Transparency to be allowed (so the blue-ish sky comes through, and the sun and shadow algorithms should take the skybox into account. Or maybe even a Preetham-style sky colour skybox with a "sun" with lens flare?

I do not know if you post here is still valid or whether the terms have already expired, but I read just now and, among my greatest desires for a great leap of scketch up there would be a chance to make it compatible
with the cam system, such as the Tebis for example, or others that can recognize,
as the 3D modeling is not born just to take pictures or static images

but is just a coin :enlight:

I have a few wishes for Sketchup 9 "free":
1. The follow-me tool that can go over crossed lines.
2. Push-pull on curved objects.
